Instructions:
Prep Work:
- Preheat & Hold: Heat your oven to 70°C (158°F) to keep cooked ingredients warm.
- Onion Magic: Slice your onions into rings and cook them in a skillet with butter and oil until softened (around 15 minutes). Add brown sugar for a touch of caramelization (5-10 minutes). Set aside in the oven.
- Bacon Bliss: Cook your bacon strips in a cold pan until crispy, then transfer them to the oven.
- Patty Time: Divide the ground beef into 6 patties, shaping them wider and flatter than desired (they'll shrink during cooking). Make a dimple in the center to prevent them from puffing up. Keep them chilled in the fridge.
Burger Magic:
- Season & Sear: Season one patty at a time with salt and pepper just before cooking. Sear on a hot skillet (no oil needed) for 3-5 minutes per side.
- Mustard & Melt: Before flipping, season again and add a squeeze of mustard. Flip, then top with cheese and melt under a lid. Transfer to the oven.
- Steam Buns: Steam your buns in a steamer or microwave (instructions provided in the recipe!).
- Toasty Perfection: Heat a skillet with butter, toast the buns until golden, and transfer them to a plate.
Assembly:
- Lettuce Layer: Start with a bed of iceberg lettuce in each bun (it stays crunchy!).
- Patty Power: Add your perfectly cooked and cheesy patty.
- Crispy & Savory: Layer on the bacon strips.
- Sweet & Tangy: Top with caramelized onions and pickles.
- Bun & Enjoy: Close the delicious deal with the toasted bun and savor your unique burger creation!
Tips & Tricks:
- Substitute plant-based ground beef for a vegan option.
- Experiment with different cheeses, toppings, and sauces to personalize your baogers.
- Leftover patties can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in a skillet or microwave.
