Delicious Protein Cream of Rice (COR) made easy!


Ever feel like your body yearns for protein but your taste buds scream for comfort food? Enter the magical world of Cream of Rice (COR), a versatile blank canvas waiting to be transformed into your next nutritious and delicious masterpiece. Let's dispel the myth that healthy can't be heavenly with this easy-to-follow recipe!

Cream of rice is a popular bodybuilder meal because, unlike oats, it’s low in fat and digests fast. Here in Japan, we can’t buy cream of rice 😥 Luckily cream of rice is nothing fancy; it is essentially just finely blended rice. Other bodybuilders make their own version by blending the raw rice. Which is a VERY long, boring and extremely LOUD process that can only be done with a strong blender. With thin walls in Japanese apartments, this is impossible for me 😂 The other downside to traditional cream of rice is the cooking method. All bodybuilders cook it by putting it in the microwave for 2 min, then taking it out and mixing for 2 min, then microwaving again for 2 min, then mixing again for 2 min. If it’s a large serving they’ll need to do it a third or fourth time...The whole process is time-consuming and requires your constant attention.

So I’ve come up with my own way! Which is to cook regular rice first, mix it with a protein shake, and then blend it. Using my method, you also only need to put it in the microwave once and it’s done!


RECIPE

Base - 540g of cooked rice - 400ml Almond milk/Water - 30g Whey Protein Isolate Powder
- Sweetener of your choice
- Pinch of salt Toppings This is where your creativity shines.
A drizzle of some nut butter, a sprinkle of nuts or seeds, a dollop of Greek yogurt, fresh fruit/berries, shredded coconut, and spices like nutmeg or cinnamon can transform your COR into a tastebud adventure.

METHOD

  1. In a microwavable mixing bowl, add your whey isolate, water, and cooked rice.

  2. Blend until everything is mixed well. (1~2 min)

  3. Microwave for 4 min at 500w until thick & creamy.

  4. Stir the bowl to get the water and rice evenly incorporated.

  5. Add your toppings! I used cinnamon, cocoa, banana & another pinch of salt. 🫰
